About Halaal Trails

Halaal Trails helps you find masjids, halaal food, shops, places to stay and Muslim-friendly services across South Africa.

Businesses and masjid committees manage their own listings. We review new listings before they go live, and every listing has to be reconfirmed regularly so the details stay accurate.

How we label halaal information

• Halaal verifiedWe checked the certificate with the certifying organisation, and its expiry date hasn't passed.
• Halaal declaredThe business told us it holds this certificate. We haven't checked it yet.
• Certificate expiredThe expiry date has passed. We never show an expired certificate as current.
• Muslim-ownedOwnership is declared by the business and shown separately. It never means a place is halaal certified.

A business can hold certificates from more than one organisation. Each one is listed with its own number, expiry date and status.

No certificate listed? That doesn't mean a place isn't halaal. We only show what we've been told and what we've checked, so ask the business if you're unsure.

Private documents a business uploads to prove its certificate are only seen by our team. They're never published.

Keeping listings fresh

Food businesses reconfirm their details every 3 months. Other businesses and masjids reconfirm every 6 months. If a listing isn't reconfirmed in time, it's marked Not recently confirmed so you know to double-check.

Masjid salaah and Jummah times show the date they were last confirmed. Every masjid sets its own timetable.

Paid placement

Listing a business is free. Businesses can pay to be featured, and featured listings are always labelled Featured · paid. Paying never buys a halaal label, an accreditation or our endorsement. Masjid listings are free, permanently, and can't be put on a paid plan.

Every listing has a Report a problem button. We read every report.
